Suburb Spotlight: McKinney

Voted as the second best place to live in the United States, McKinney, Texas is found north east of downtown Dallas. This is a rapidly growing area split by an expanding major highway. McKinney is known for large homes, plenty of shopping and excellent schools.

Collin County is where McKinney is located and this is one of the most well-known counties in all of Texas. The main reason it’s so well-known are the schools, which are far above the state average and provide an excellent education for children living in the area.

The area is served by the McKinney Independent School District, which is one of the best in the state. Along with the amazing school system, many colleges, universities and technical schools are found close to home.

Another focus of the city is the McKinney Performing Arts Center, which is a historic landmark many residents enjoy. Events are held here throughout the year providing plenty of great entertainment options.

McKinney is also home to some of the best golf courses in the area, shopping outlets and so much more. With Allen, Frisco, Plano and Prosper all close by, it’s easy to find all of the best things these suburbs of Dallas have to offer.

Many of the homes in McKinney are newer and expansion plans include around 2,000 new homes expected over the next few years. The city expects to more than double the population over the next decade as it continues to grow to the north.

Homes in McKinney have an average price around $360K with the highest priced home coming in around $3 million. Many new developments are popping up all throughout the area with new homes ready for new residents.

From 2000 to 2003, McKinney was names at the fastest growing and it was again in 2006. In 2007 it was second on this list and third in 2008.

If you want to live in a suburb of Dallas and you prefer a growing area, you will be hard-pressed to find a better choice than McKinney.
