McKinney Texas is one of the many lovely suburbs of Dallas Texas. McKinney Texas, like many suburbs of Dallas, offers great schools, shopping, dining, entertainment, and a quaint downtown area. McKinney is currently home to over 131,000 people. McKinney was rated number five in Money Magazine’s “Best Places to Live” based on its low crime rate, affordable housing and employment opportunities. Throughout the community there are many opportunities to relax and enjoy yourself. Many have basketball courts, ball fields, and lovely pools. There are also picturesque walking trails. What makes it stand out is its gem of a downtown… Though McKinney has grown like mad over the past decade, you’d never suspect it when driving through its tree-filled communities surrounded by ponds, parks, and hiking trails.”
Over the last several years McKinney has gained national media attention for the multiple LEED and sustainable (Green) buildings that have been constructed within the city. McKinney is home of the first privately developed LEED Platinum office building, which was speculatively developed by Westworld Holdings, as well as Roy Lee Walker Elementary, the first sustainable school in Texas. Pat Lobb Toyota (designed by Gensler) is the first LEED certified Automotive Dealership (NC Silver Rating), and has become the hallmark for the greening of automotive dealerships, receiving visitors from around the world.
Additionally, one of the two experimental sustainable Wal-Mart stores is in McKinney (Wal-Mart did not pursue LEED status). The facility has been designed to test and promote a number of sustainable design elements and concepts, including photovoltaic arrays, rainwater harvesting, a waste-oil heating system, and two wind turbines of 50 kW and 1 kW nameplate capacity from Bergey Windpower.
McKinney is served primarily by the highly acclaimed McKinney Independent School District, but some western areas of McKinney are zoned to nearby Frisco Independent School District or Prosper Independent School District and southern areas to Allen Independent School District. The historic McKinney Town Square is close to many subdivisions and is home to many antique, apparel, art and specialty shops. Arabellas is in the square and it sells fun and funky clothing and Pump’s is a fun store that sells jewelry and accessories, just to name a few shops.
The square also offers great dining options, like Coffee Squared, which serves great coffee and fabulous pastries. Churchill’s British Pub and Restaurant is also in the square and it serves authentic British pub fare and beer. McKinney is also close to the Allen Premium Outlet mall, with stores like Calvin Klein and Talbots. The Shops at Fairview are also a short trip from McKinney.
A housing development in McKinney, Adriatica in Stonebridge Ranch, recently made the news in Croatia, as it is being built as a partial faithful replica of the town of Supetar on the Croatian island of Brač
For tourists and guests, McKinney has many hotels. McKinney has a Best Western, Holiday Inn and Comfort Suites. Also in 2009 the Grand hotel on Louisiana Street was remodeled. McKinney Texas is a safe and quiet suburb with easy access to Dallas. With its number five ranking in Money magazine’s “Best places to Live,” McKinney has become a popular and fast growing city. From its historic town square to its modern shopping centers, it is easy to see why McKinney is so fast growing and popular. McKinney is a great suburb to live in.
